We have found that when trying to perform a factory reset with FortiGate devices running FortiOS, this can be done in a multitude of ways.
Some prefer using the factory reset button, though it’s only useful during the first 30 seconds of operation once it has booted. We have come to like using the CLI for this.
Connect to the FortiGate via SSH or telnet, if you have either enabled, or using the webconsole, and simply enter the following command:
